My Commitments

When asked to describe “who I am” or “what I do,” a favourite short story comes to mind:

As an old man walked the beach at dawn, he noticed a young man ahead of him picking up starfish and flinging them into the sea. Finally, catching up with the youth, he asked him why. The answer was that the stranded starfish would die if left until the morning sun. “But the beach goes on for miles and there are millions of starfish,” countered the old man. “How can your effort make any difference?” The young man looked at the starfish in his hand and then threw it to safety in the waves. “It makes a difference to this one,” he said.

At their heart, the services I offer and experiences I’ve gained throughout my career reflect the simple, yet powerful, words of the story above. In our work together, I will value the relationships at the core of your teams and organizations. I will strive to work with you, rather than do things for you or to you. I will connect you to resources, listen and ask questions intentionally and explore challenges from multiple perspectives in order to help you achieve your goals. It is my commitment to honour the message of this story, using my experience, knowledge and life learnings to help you make a difference to each one of the starfish in your life.
